The Bureau seeks a highly skilled flood network or radio technician with strong expertise in Event Reporting Radio Telemetry System (ERRTS), Legacy ALERT and ALERT2 protocol, Radio Mobile, ENVIROMON and/or Elements 360 Software systems.
This position will be responsible for technical input for the delivery stream of the FWIN Program, specifically around radio network design, radio backbone upgrades, and the transition from Legacy ALERT to ALERT2. The FWIN program involves the acquisition, upgrading, integration and transition to operations of flood warning network assets from council and state-based authorities to the Bureau’s flood service. The role works in the Observing Networks Service Management (ONSM) Flood team in the Observing Systems and Operations business unit (OSO). Since the program's success depends on effective integration with the current network, the candidate will be aware of this operating environment and deliver with a long-term perspective on the supportability and success of the enlarged network, adapting their approach to deliver shared value to the new and existing assets.
The key duties include:
Complete Radio Network Design activities including desktop pathway mapping for flood warning networks
Lead design recommendations for ERRTS backbone upgrades
Technical lead into the design and implementation of the AERT2 Networks including application of TDMA manager
Technical lead and contact for council's transition away from Enviromon
Point of contact for advice to contractors and Bureau staff delivering radio communication upgrades
Collaborate across teams to achieve outcomes and liaise with FWIN Partners as required
The successful applicant will work in a cooperative and flexible team environment and liaise closely with hydrographic, scientific, technical and project staff in the Bureau to seamlessly delivery flood warning infrastructure to the Bureau that contributes to the Bureau’s Flood Warning service.
