Position Overview:

The Front End Maintainers work 12-hour shifts on for four days and off for four days. There are typically 3 Front End Maintainers on at one time. The Front End Maintainers initiate the can making process. Steel coils are transported by a fork lift to the upender where they are tipped on to their side. They are then transported again by coil car to the unwinder where they are mounted in place. Two Front End Maintainers guide the steel sheet through the lubricator and into the press. From this point the Front End Maintainers are responsible for the set up, operation and maintenance of the cupping press, body makers, trimmers, and conveying systems.

Duties And Responsibilities:

Inspect, upend, and load coils onto the unwinder, ensuring proper feeding through the lubricator and into the press.
Perform setup, maintenance, and operation of the upender, unwinder, lubricator, and cupping press.
Oversee the setup, maintenance, and operation of body makers, trimmers, and conveying systems.
Monitors and record can specifications in the system, including flange wall thickness, mid-wall thickness, dome depth, and trim can height.
Conduct visual inspections and cup weight checks to ensure compliance with production standards.
Take corrective measures as necessary to maintain quality.
Assist in other production areas as needed to ensure can flow through the plant.
Complete required paperwork, including coil logs, check sheets, and other documentation.
Perform other job-related tasks as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Working knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics.
Basic knowledge of how electrical components work.
Ability to use precision measurement devices (i.e. calipers, micrometers and dial indicators).
Ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of applicable safety regulations, reinforcing a culture where safety is the top priority.
Ability to collaborate and communicate clearly with all team members.
Competencies:

Strong problem-solving skills through an individual and/or collaborative approach
Ability to work independently or with a team
Must be able to look at new solutions and “think outside the box”
Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The Team Member may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions:

Generally, working in a plant environment, but may be required to perform some job duties inside a typical office setting.
While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic.
The Team Member may be exposed to a wide range of temperatures.
The noise level is frequently loud.
