Az-Zahraa Islamic Academy is seeking applications for a Full-time Elementary Teacher (Grade 4 - 7)

The Az-Zahraa Islamic Academy (AZIA) is an independent Junior Kindergarten – Grade 7 school that is inspired by the doctrines and values of the Islamic faith and offers a broad and balanced program that is in line with BC's redesigned curriculum. AZIA aims to provide our growing community with (i) a solid foundation of Islamic values, nurturing and strengthening the faith of our youngsters in thought and practice, (ii) an outstanding educational experience, and (iii) the skills to confidently and effectively interact in society.

With a commitment to nurture strong individuals and members of society, AZIA aims to instill Islamic wisdom, thinking and practices within its students, manifested in meaningful pursuit of spiritual, intellectual, artistic, technological, athletic and service endeavours. Required qualifications include:

BC Professional Teacher Certification from the BC Teacher Regulation Office
Knowledge of pedagogy including instructional strategies, theory of teaching literacy/numeracy, and child development is essential.
Knowledge of current curriculum trends including teaching early reading and numeracy
Interest in taking on extra-curricular activities.
Desire to work collaboratively with an energetic and enthusiastic team.
Experience with ESL / struggling students is an asset.
Background in Islam is an asset.
