Game Software Engineer – Music-Based Educational Game (Remote/Flexible)
Client provider: RocketDevs
Company/Project Name: Rhythmic Beats
Job Type: Contract-to-hire / Freelance / Remote
Industry: Game Development | EdTech | Music Technology
Are you passionate about games, music, and innovative technology?
Join us on an exciting journey to build Rhythmic Beats — a music-based educational game that turns a real guitar into a powerful learning tool.
About the Project:
Rhythmic Beats is a mobile/tablet rhythm game designed to teach players how to play the guitar — using an actual instrument as a controller. Think Guitar Hero meets Duolingo for music learners.
Our goal is to make learning music fun, immersive, and rewarding, especially for beginners and kids. By integrating AI-driven note recognition with interactive gameplay, we're building a platform that teaches guitar notes, rhythm, and music theory in a modern, gamified way.
Who We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking a Game Software Engineer who thrives in small teams and loves building impactful, user-focused experiences. You’ll be the technical lead on this greenfield project, working closely with the founder and potentially additional AI collaborators.
Responsibilities:
Build the core gameplay mechanics in Unity or Unreal Engine (mobile/tablet focus)
Integrate real-time audio input to recognize guitar notes
Implement educational modules (tutorial mode, rhythm training)
Support features like Free Play, Challenge Mode, and Song Importing
Optimize performance for smooth mobile/tablet gameplay
Collaborate on game design, UX, and future updates
Ideal Skills:
Proficient in C# (Unity) or C++ (Unreal Engine)
Experience with audio processing, MIDI, or real-time input systems
Familiarity with AI or ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.) — a plus!
Experience building and shipping cross-platform mobile games
Comfortable working autonomously and collaborating asynchronously
Expected salary:
USD$5/hr - USD$8/hr
Bonus if you have:
Worked on rhythm/music games
Built or integrated guitar/real-instrument interfaces
A love for music and/or teaching
Why Join Rhythmic Beats?
Be part of something unique at the intersection of education, music, and gaming
Work remotely and on your own schedule
Freedom to influence product direction and design
Opportunity to grow into a lead dev or CTO role as the product evolves
Let’s make learning music feel like playing a game.
