GIS Student Technician
About the Opportunity
The District of Lake Country has an exciting opportunity for a GIS Student Technician based in Lake Country, BC.
The student will support the organization in its Geographic Information System (GIS) services. In addition to producing digital products, you will communicate problems and identify deficiencies and suggest solutions to GIS data related issues.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Updating the District of Lake Country’s Municipal Evacuation Route and Notification Plan Maps and Procedures to ensure compliance with provincial requirements;
Creating a digital online version (app) for the Municipal Evacuation Route and Notification Plan Maps;
Performing data maintenance – ensure the District’s road centerline data meets the NG+11 data model, and ensure the BC Digital Road Atlas is in coincident with the District data;
Ground truthing addressing issues, roadway location issues and trail location issues and supporting corrective actions for addressing, signage and wayfinding;
Updating Fire Department GIS layers (dispatch, zones, etc.);
Applying your strong customer service skills as you respond to GIS related inquiries and requests from internal staff, external staff and the public.
More About You
To qualify for this role, you must be enroll in a GIS program or other related discipline with plans to return in the fall of 2025. A valid Driver’s License is required. Experience with ESRI platform is required.

About the Benefits
You will receive a competitive salary of $22.52 (2025 rates) per hour plus 17.4% in-lieu of all benefits

This position can work up to 40 hours per week from June 1 – August 31, 2025. The position is open till filled.
