The New York State Executive Chamber seeks a seasoned attorney to fill the role of Assistant Counsel for Ethics and Judiciary. This position requires a skilled professional who can navigate the complexities of ethics and compliance within the Executive Chamber and foster collaborative relationships with external stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities:

As the Executive Chamber's Ethics Officer, this individual will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable ethics laws and policies.
">
They will advise the Governor, senior staff, and Executive Chamber employees on ethics obligations and provide guidance on various issues.
">
This includes serving as the primary legal coordinator between the Executive Chamber and agency ethics officers, managing vetting and appointment processes for judicial vacancies, and developing and maintaining strong working relationships with outside organizations and institutions.
">
Additionally, they will lead the development of internal ethics and compliance policies and procedures, design and conduct ethics training, and ensure timely financial disclosures from Executive Chamber employees.
">
They will also provide strategic legal counsel, conduct research, and draft memoranda on legislative, litigation, and operational matters.
">
Effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams, external stakeholders, and senior leadership are essential for success in this role.
">

Requirements:

A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and membership in the New York State Bar.
">
A minimum of 5 years of relevant post-bar experience, with at least 1 year dedicated to ethics and compliance counseling.
">
Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal statutes, rules, and regulations related to ethics and compliance.
">
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information effectively.
">
Superb interpersonal and communication skills, enabling seamless collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
">
Capacity to analyze complex situations, exercise sound judgment, and apply critical thinking skills under pressure.
