Calgary Farmers’ Market
Position Overview
The Guest Services Specialist plays a vital role in creating a welcoming, informative, and efficient environment for all visitors and vendors at the Calgary Farmers’ Market. This front-line position ensures guests can easily navigate the Market, access services, and stay informed about ongoing activities and events. Simultaneously, it supports vendors and Market operations, allowing them to focus on their business.
Reporting to the Senior Operations Coordinator and Operations Administrators, this position receives day-to-day guidance from Guest Services Leads and collaborates closely with the broader Market team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Customer Experience & Information Services
The primary focus of this role is to ensure a positive guest experience. Acting as the first point of contact at the information kiosk, the Guest Services Specialist must provide timely and accurate information, foster a friendly atmosphere, and support both vendors and customers.
Greet all guests warmly and professionally at the Information Kiosk.
Respond to inquiries from customers and vendors, providing clear directions and information.
Proactively assist guests by stepping out from the kiosk as needed.
Answer incoming calls during Market hours and manage phone inquiries.
Keep all brochure racks, flyers, and information holders well stocked.
Stay updated on daily events, vendor changes, and Market programming.
Assist vendors with general information, directing them to appropriate staff when needed.
Administer various kiosk-based programs, including:
Sale of merchandise, promotional materials, and other items.
Management of the Lost and Found service.
2. Operational Support
The Guest Services Specialist provides hands-on assistance with Market operations. This support allows other departments to focus on strategic and specialized functions.
Coordinate daily entertainment programming:
Serve as a point of contact for buskers and performers.
Provide check-in, orientation, and guidelines to entertainers.
Communicate daily performance schedules to vendors.
Assist with internal communication and logistics:
Distribute vendor invoices, notices, and updates.
Collect and sort Market mail (primarily Thursdays and Fridays).
Deliver mail and materials to individual vendors.
Liaise with facility staff and external service providers:
Notify cleaning and maintenance teams of operational needs.
Coordinate responses to building issues and relay information to relevant teams.
Opening and Closing Responsibilities:
Ensure entrances are unlocked at the start of business hours.
Secure the facility by locking doors at closing time.
Provide additional operational support as directed by leadership.
3. Team Collaboration and Market Support
The Calgary Farmers’ Market operates with a strong team-oriented culture. The Guest Services Specialist is expected to support colleagues and contribute to an environment where everyone works together to create a successful Market experience.
Collaborate with staff across departments to assist with broader Market needs.
Take on additional tasks or projects as assigned, especially during peak periods or special events.
Exhibit flexibility in scheduling and duties based on Market cycles and seasonal fluctuations.
Work Environment
The Market is dynamic, with seasonal and event-based fluctuations that affect workload and pace. The role requires flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work efficiently in both high-pressure and quieter periods.
Ability to maintain composure and deliver excellent service during busy or stressful times.
Willingness to adjust duties and schedules in response to evolving Market demands.
Must be able to work at both Calgary Farmers’ Market locations (South and West), as needed based on scheduling and operational requirements.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 28 per week
