This strategic Health and Safety Manager role will work in collaboration with the Wellbeing Lead and Principal Designer Lead and be responsible for setting and delivering project health and safety expectations through the design and pre-construction site activities phase of one of the UK's largest energy upgrade projects over its 8-to-10-year program.

Within the AECOM Arup joint venture, this role will be both client and JV leadership facing, tasked with safeguarding the health and safety of all project staff and that may be affected by our activities.

The role scope will include the collaboration and cocreation of both internal and client operational standards, technical health & safety deliverables, oversight of digital system development, creation of culture and initiative campaigns, formulating reports, etc. as well as other workstreams to embed health, safety and wellbeing through the project mobilisation phase, before taking a more project deliver overview and focus.

Here’s what you’ll do:

Safety Champion: Act as a prominent advocate for health (including wellbeing), safety, and the environment, fostering continuous improvement and innovation to cultivate a mature safety culture.

Client Engagement: Engage with and collaborate with the Client and the delivery partner representatives to develop the project health and safety approach and oversee its execution.

SH&E Promotion: Author, support, feed into, the creation and execution of health and safety initiatives, campaigns, etc. and track results, evaluating program effectiveness.

SH&E Advice, Support & Guidance: Offer expert health and safety counsel, assistance, and direction to client, partner and project personnel.

One HS&W Team: Collaborate with peers, colleagues and managers to form a cohesive team that respects, supports, and works together towards common goals.

Management Systems Implementation: Collaborate with partner to establish, apply, and enhance health and safety protocols, systems, and procedures.

Project / Operational Meetings: Participate in, contribute to, and represent AECOM Arup on health and safety matters in project meetings.

Reporting: Generate reports for all managed works and projects to convey status, performance, and improvements, reporting to the SH&E Director, project leadership team and client both in written and presented formats.

Healthy Starts: Aid in reviewing and refining health and safety project deliverables to guarantee successful project initiation and progress.

Assurance: Guarantee adherence to and effectiveness of the assurance programme across all projects.

Accident Review, Management & Investigations: Conduct thorough investigations of all incidents and accidents, ensuring adherence to AECOM Arup, and client systems. Ensure investigations are conducted at the appropriate level, with corrective actions identified and preventive lessons integrated into the project.

Qualifications

Here’s what we’re looking for:
• Have vast experience of health and safety experience, including experience in leading major energy, construction, or pre-construction projects as a Health and Safety Manager for a principal contractor or consultant.
• Hold chartered IOSH membership or an equivalent credential, along with formal health and safety qualifications, complemented by relevant sector-specific training.
• Be an excellent communicator across written, verbal, and visual mediums.
• Collaborate effectively within a team and be capable of making clear, concise, and well-considered decisions independently.
• Naturally adhere to AECOM Arup's equity, diversity, and inclusion policies
