Role Description

We are looking for a SHEQ Advisor with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in civil engineering and construction to join a well-established team.

The business Head Office is based in Solihull with a satellite office in Sheffield.

We work across many frameworks as Principal Contractor in the Water utilities industry, District Heating, Environment Agency and Canal River Trust to name a few

You will be an ambassador of the company’s SHEQ culture, providing professional assurance, advice and escalation within the business. Spot and encourage best practice and identify areas for improvement that supports everyone involved in the organisation’s activities to deliver a positive safety culture.

Key Skills & Requirements

Ø Monitor and carry out a programme of safety audits and inspections, raising non-conformances and observations as appropriate to ensure a programme of compliance and continual improvement is achieved.

Ø Support the team by reporting and completing investigations of any accidents, incidents, near misses and hazards.

Ø Advise and influence the business to understand safe working practices, embedding the licence to stop and ensure working practices remain compliant with specification, policy and procedure and identify and pursue any significant issues.

Ø Escalate safety queries received within the business to ensure learnings are followed through.

Ø Ensure standards of PPE and equipment are maintained, identifying when items of plant and equipment need maintenance, calibration, replacement etc. and escalate issues as required.

Ø Monitor and report on safety performance and assist the business to identify areas requiring improvement and development, using company prescribed systems.

Ø Support with the review of SHEQ performance data and reports to provide updates to management teams and contribute to the SHEQ Management Review process.

Ø Develop initiatives and programmes that engage the workforce to achieve an industry leading safety record and SHEQ performance.

Ø Improve performance through the implementation of environmental, quality and health and safety management systems, including ISO +001, 14001& 45001, complimenting other current standards and legislation requirements.

Ø Assist in the development and implementation of SHEQ company systems, programmes and initiatives.

Qualifications and experience:

Ø Experience of delivering safety audits and dealing with non-conformance in an impartial, professional, positive way that encourages improved performance.

Ø Role model behaviours that influence the desired safety outcomes.

Ø Comfortable to perform SHEQ audits within a construction/utilities industry environment.

Ø Working with all levels of the business to achieve a positive SHEQ culture.

Ø Ability to manage own workload and time effectively in an autonomous role.

Ø Able to use Microsoft suite (Outlook, Power point, Word and Excel) and other Company systems to record relevant information.

Ø Strong communicator with a ‘can do’ attitude and excellent interpersonal skills who has a passion for SHEQ excellence.

Qualifications

NEBOSH General / construction - essential

Confined Spaces Med risk - desired

Temporary works coordinator - desired

Full UK driving licence and must be comfortable to travel.

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Contract length: 18 months

Pay: £28,000.00-£31,000.00 per year
