ABOUT THE CLPNA
The College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) is a non-profit regulatory organization. The CLPNA exists to protect Alberta healthcare users. Our first responsibility is to the public. We regulate the profession of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), setting and maintaining standards to ensure the public receives safe, competent, and ethical healthcare services. Our focus and commitment to public protection and regulatory excellence underscores everything we do. The CLPNA has partnered with Alberta Health to lead the development and the continued operations of the Alberta Health Care Aide (HCA) Directory. In Alberta, HCAs are not a regulated profession, although HCAs will become regulated under the Health Professions Act in the future.
EMPLOYMENT TERM
This is a full-time, permanent appointment. The position is eligible for hybrid work, with a requirement to work in our Edmonton office on a regular basis.
THE ROLE
Reporting to the Manager of Human Resources, the Human Resources (HR) Advisor is a member of team accountable for the provision of operational HR support within the CLPNA and to its employees. The HR Advisor is responsible for a range of duties, including recruitment and onboarding; providing employee relations advice and guidance to employees and supervisors; researching and implementing HR best practices; providing metrics and data to enhance business decisions; as well as support the administration of HR processes, including time and attendance.
The successful candidate is dedicated to providing excellent customer services to CLPNA employees, leadership, the Council, contractors, volunteers, and our external stakeholders. Utilizing their experience and demonstrated knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards Code and human resources best practice, they provide advice, guidance and support in all HR matters while making recommendations for improvement and growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruitment & Onboarding – guides and supports hiring supervisor through creative advertising, administration of the competition, interview development and questioning, referencing and documentation preparation. Coordinates the onboarding process to ensure a smooth, informative, and welcoming orientation has been organized for new hires, the supervisor, and the team.
HR Administration – responsible for maintaining, overseeing, and monitoring monthly timesheet submissions as well as compiling statistical reports relating to personnel data. Maintains and adheres to security and retention policies to ensure statute requirements are met as well as legal obligations. Collaborates with the Human Resources Manager providing input and support in the general operations of the Human Resources Department.
Employee Relations – provide employee relations advice ensuring issues are addressed in a timely, supportive, and professional manner. Identify issues with potential implications and bring to the Manager of Human Resources for discussion and follow-up.
Process Development & Research – support in research and analysis of best practice and trends that can positively impact human resource services provided to the CLPNA, which can include preparing procedure documents, briefing notes, etc. Provide training and guidance for employees and management on human resource related topics or initiatives including, writing job descriptions, employee relations, leadership training, and wellness initiatives.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
As an experienced HR professional, you have a demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships while ensuring professionalism and confidentiality in your work. Your excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple and conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment allows you to effectively respond to the needs of your stakeholders and the organization. Using sound analysis, judgment, and decision-making skills, you can effectively evaluate a situation and make comprehensive and solution-focused recommendations.
You are highly organized, with strong computer skills, and can work independently but also collaboratively on a team with a positive and professional attitude. Your commitment to continuous improvement and high-quality HR services contributes to the achievement of the CLPNA’s Strategic Plan and the organizational culture.
EXPERIENCE
A university or college diploma, preferably in business specializing in Human Resources, or equivalent.
Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CHRP) designation an asset.
Three to five years of experience as a Human Resources specialist.
Knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards Code and recruitment and selection methodologies and employee relations. Experience in compensation would be an asset.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated PC/computer skills with solid understanding of MS Office.
Must speak, read, and write English fluently.
Satisfactory professional and criminal reference checks.
Must be eligible to work in Canada.
