As an Intelligence Analyst, you will play a critical role in safeguarding the safety and security of city employees and the public by transforming complex information into clear, actionable intelligence. You will collect, consolidate, and analyze data from multiple sources including open-source intelligence and social media to identify potential threats, risks, and trends. Primary duties include:
Proactively search, collect, and analyze information from various sources to identify emerging issues and security concerns.
Evaluate intelligence for credibility, relevance, and urgency; prioritize findings to support timely and informed decision-making.
Detect and assess direct or indirect threats targeting City infrastructure, employees and elected officials and provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
Monitor global and national threat landscapes to identify risks that could impact The City of Calgary, ensuring key insights are shared with relevant internal and external partners.
Support internal investigations and law enforcement by gathering open-source intelligence on persons, employees, or groups of interest, delivering actionable insights that aid case development and policy enforcement.
Develop and deliver clear, concise, and actionable intelligence reports, presentations, and threat assessments based on in-depth research, collection, and data analysis.
Collaborate closely with internal departments, law enforcement, and external intelligence and government partners to exchange information, enhance situational awareness, and stay ahead of emerging social and security issues.
Share strategic intelligence related to crime, social disorder, and potential threats to inform Security Operations and guide proactive resource deployment across City infrastructure.
Produce focused intelligence products such as bulletins, threat risk assessments, and briefings on events, persons, or interest groups using verified intelligence sources.
Monitor and assess social disorder trends, group dynamics, and public events to identify risks, forecast potential disruptions, and inform planning efforts.
Lead service programs and business processes by mining and analyzing incident management data to generate complex reports and fulfill strategic data requests for Corporate Security leadership.
Design and deliver impactful dashboards and visual reports communicating key performance indicators (KPIs), service metrics, and operational trends to support data-driven decision-making.
Clean, code, and validate operational incident data to ensure accuracy and consistency, transforming raw information into actionable insights through visual analytics and reporting.
Conduct in-depth trend and pattern analysis of security incidents to establish benchmarks, identify anomalies, and inform proactive service improvements.
Qualifications
A completed 2 year diploma in Criminology, Sociology, Business, Arts or a related field of study and at least 8 years of related experience, OR;
A degree in Criminology, Sociology, Business, Arts or a related field of study and at least 4 years of related experience.
The successful candidate must possess an Alberta Private Investigators License (or acquire within 6 months) and be Certified in Open-Source Intelligence and Social Media Intelligence and Investigations.
Knowledge of analytical methods, statistics and practices.
Experience conducting open-source investigations using intelligence tools and techniques.
Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, a high attention to detail and the ability to deal with large amounts of information in a limited time.
Pre-employment Requirements
A security clearance will be conducted.
