Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.

Reporting to the Senior Environmental Specialist, the successful candidate will support the Environmental Department in maintaining environmental compliance, supporting operations, and contributing to the implementation of environmental programs at Vancouver Shipyards (VSY). They will work closely with the Environmental Specialist and Senior Environmental Specialist to assist with inspections, data collection, reporting, environmental communication initiatives, and administrative activities, along with varied day-to-day tasks.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton , North Vancouver.

What you’ll do

Develop and implement Predictive techniques plans on critical equipment.
Participate in internal environmental inspections to ensure policies and practices are properly implemented and assist with addressing findings.
Support the implementation of on-site environmental programs and participate in environmental-related committees and initiatives.
Assist with spill prevention and response efforts, including incident investigations, internal/external reporting, lessons learned meetings, and training and drills.
Assist with corporate projects, including environmental performance tracking, updating environmental intranet pages, etc.
Contribute to the preparation of reports for the Senior Environmental Specialist, including analyzing and interpreting environmental monitoring data.
Participate in stormwater quality monitoring, sampling, and data analysis.
Managing wildlife concerns.
Assists with the management of hazardous waste and ensuring compliance under Ministry of Environment approved Operational Plan.
Various administrative tasks associated with the Environmental Management System (EMS) and Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).
Support internal and external environmental audits to ensure compliance by organizing documents, tracking actions, and preparing summary reports.
Periodically prepare environmental and program performance summaries for the Senior Environment Specialist.
With support from the Senior Environmental Specialist, ensure VSY’s multiple permit requirements are followed.
Help with data logging and documentation needed to meet permit conditions and internal monitoring and reporting targets.
Support the development of educational materials for environmental programs (e.g., intranet articles, toolbox talks, TV slides, posters, etc.).
Help to organize and facilitate VSY and Seaspan-wide environmental events, as directed by the Senior Environmental Specialist.
What you’ll bring

Enrollment in a diploma or degree in Environmental Science/Management or related field and have knowledge of scientific principles with respect to environmental protection and sustainability.
Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal regulations pertaining to environmental management and sustainability.
Excellent interpersonal skills (verbal, written, listening etc.).
Able to communicate effectively to a diverse audience.
Ability to analyze data and produce information reports.
Demonstrated ability to work within set timelines.
Organized with strong digital literacy.
Willingness to learn about health and safety.
Comfortable working in a heavy industrial environment, which may involve navigating uneven surfaces, loud noise, and varying temperatures.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.

Start Date of Internship: Monday, September 8 th , 2025.

End Date of Internship: Friday, May 1 st , 2026 (8-Months).
