Job Title: Lab Technician – Construction Materials Testing

Location: Thiruvananthapuram Airport Construction Site

Employment Type: Full-Time

Reporting To: Quality Control Engineer / Site Manager
Job Summary:

The Lab Technician will be responsible for performing various laboratory and field tests on construction materials to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards. The role requires maintaining accurate records, preparing test reports, and ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the lab environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Material Testing:
• Conduct routine tests on construction materials such as soil, aggregates, cement, concrete, and asphalt.
• Perform tests to determine material properties like compressive strength, gradation, moisture content, etc.
• Sample Collection and Preparation:
• Collect material samples from various site locations as per standard protocols.
• Prepare specimens for testing according to relevant codes and standards (IS, ASTM, etc.).
• Quality Control:
• Ensure that all materials used meet the quality requirements specified in the project.
• Assist in identifying and resolving quality issues related to construction materials.
• Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of all tests conducted.
• Prepare daily/weekly test reports and submit them to the Quality Control Engineer.
• Laboratory Maintenance:
• Ensure the proper functioning and calibration of lab equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
• Compliance and Standards:
• Adhere to all relevant standards and guidelines (IS, ASTM, AASHTO, etc.).
• Comply with safety protocols at the laboratory and construction site.
• Collaboration:
• Coordinate with site engineers, contractors, and the project management team for timely testing and reporting.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Educational Requirements:
• Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering / Material Science or related field.
• Certification in material testing (preferred).
• Experience:
• Minimum 2-3 years of experience in construction material testing, preferably on large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in operating lab equipment like compressive testing machines, sieve shakers, and core cutters.
• Knowledge of relevant testing standards (IS, ASTM).
• Soft Skills:
• Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
• Good communication and reporting skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work in outdoor construction environments when required.
• Physically capable of handling materials and equipment.
Work Schedule:
• Full-time, including occasional weekends and extended hours as per project requirements.
