Protecting and restoring nature spaces and species is the core mission of the Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC). Our vision is for nature to thrive in Aotearoa, where people can enjoy and enrich it.
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced conservation professional to join our team as a Project Lead. This role involves managing budgets, setting up and delivering work programmes, and contributing to long-term planning and strategic thinking in biodiversity conservation. Key responsibilities include implementing aspects of the Fiordland Islands Biosecurity Programme, leading the planning and delivery of large-scale aerial predator control operations, and supporting Marine/Freshwater programmes.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a broad range of biodiversity field experience, excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, and the ability to lead and deliver projects successfully. You will also require skill in working with experts to understand technical advice and applying and communicating technical information clearly. A tertiary qualification in conservation, ecology or biology is essential, along with current Full Driver's License and experience in logistics, leading trip briefings, teams in the field and trip debriefs.
Benefits
This is a 16-month fixed-term or secondment opportunity based in Te Anau, offering a competitive salary range of $68,535 to $86,423.
