The Senior Midwifery Advisor plays a key role in providing high-level policy advice to the Minister for Health and Aged Care, Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care, and the Executive within the Department of Health and Aged Care.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide specialist and strategic policy advice on complex matters in midwifery, maternity care, health workforce, health systems, regulation, legislation, and education.
Engage with other divisions to provide advice and analysis on policies, projects, and programs.
Contribute to the integration of maternity service models of care, including Birthing on Country models.
Develop and interpret policy considering sensitive organisational and political issues.
Represent the Department in cross-agency meetings and forums.
Build and manage key relationships with diverse stakeholders and networks.
Lead written materials including project management, policy reports, briefing papers, speeches, and corporate documentation.
Deliver outcomes against the business plan contributing to the Department's Corporate Plan and Portfolio Budget Statements.

The Commonwealth Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer (CNMO) Division provides high-level policy advice across nursing, midwifery, health system, health workforce, legislation, regulation, and education issues. The CNMO works across the Department, contributing to policy and programs from a nursing and midwifery perspective in areas like primary care, mental health, and aged care. This position will support the CNMO in providing specialist and strategic policy advice.
