Starting Salary: $87,516.00


This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The Lead Accountant will be responsible for supervising and assigning invoices to support daily business operations.

Plans, assigns, supervises, and reviews of the activities of subordinate personnel engaged in the conduct of invoices.

Audits funding for a variety of large volume and time sensitive transactions and invoices and completes payment transaction processing.

Checks and reviews audited vouchers to ensure accuracy and conformance to established accounting procedures. Uses computerized accounting systems to record and reconcile accounting records.

Reviews program contracts, budgets and budget amendments and revisions for conformance to federal, state and local government accounting requirements.

Resolves problems regarding budget limitations, allocations or modifications and prepares necessary documentation.

Provides technical assistance with the preparation of documents for reimbursement to contractors, subcontractors or other agencies.

Prepare routine financial reports and approve vouchers for payment.

Prepares memos and updates transactions into spreadsheets.

Trains staff in accounting procedures. Approve staff vacation requests and complete annual staff performance evaluations.

Address: 10510 W. Zemke Road, Chicago - AAB Building

Shift: :30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Days Off: Saturday and Sundays

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a directly related field with 15 semester hours in Accounting, plus three years of professional accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, provided that the minimum degree requirement is met.

NOTE: The candidates selected for hire must pass an airport background check and a Security Threat Assessment.

NOTE: Must be flexible for early and/or late meetings and weekends.

NOTE: This position requires a VALID LICENSE at the time of hire.


SELECTION REQUIREMENTS: This position requires an applicant to successfully complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.
