Job Description

Pharmacy Technician III at MEDSTAR HEALTH
As a highly experienced Pharmacy Technician, I play a crucial role in supporting pharmacy operations and ensuring accurate medication dispensing and inventory management. My extensive experience in a hospital setting has equipped me with the skills to provide exceptional support to patients and healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
Assist Pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications to patients.
Perform technical functions to facilitate pharmacy operations.
Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Up to 2 years of technical or specialized training may be required.
Experience:
3 years of hospital experience required.
A diploma from an approved pharmacy technician training program may be an acceptable alternative for six months of experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
DC DOH - Pharmacy Technician Registration required.
PTCB - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or equivalent national certification within 180 Days required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Requires ability to read and write, knowledge of grammar, medical terminology, and proficiency in basic mathematics, including fractions and decimals.
Maintains clean and orderly workstations.
Additional Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, prepares oral, topical, and parenteral medications for dispensing to patients.
Enters physician orders into the hospital computer system to update/edit patient profiles and charges.
Assists patients, nurses, physicians, and others with medication order requests and pharmacy-related needs.
Fills and replaces medications in automated medication dispensing machines and transports to appropriate nursing units.
Prepares IV admixtures using aseptic techniques.
Delivers and retrieves medications, including narcotics, and pharmacy supplies to/from patient care and satellite pharmacy areas.
Compounds products in bulk, or per individual order, and prepares private stock orders and individual unit-of-use packaging.
Maintains controlled substance inventory log/records and reviews patient medicine administration records (Kardex).
