Job Summary
This is a student position that provides support to the operations and activities of a department or a departmental project, program, or function. The role involves assisting staff with routine clerical duties and responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Provides office assistance to the department by performing general clerical tasks.
Answers phone calls, routes incoming calls, takes messages, greets visitors, and directs them to the appropriate staff member.
Maintains files and records accurately.
Assists in preparing and implementing departmental project/program activities.
Provides general information and/or training regarding project/program.
Required Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures and concepts.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and files.
Excellent communication skills for interacting with university faculty and staff, students, and the public.
Ability to follow instructions and understand departmental procedures.
Eligibility Requirements
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. For summer employment, enrollment in three or more semester hours or registration for courses in the upcoming fall semester is required.
Additional Information
Student assistants may not hold other types of positions, such as graduate assistantships or temporary casual employment, at the same time as being employed as a student assistant.
