Job Description
Nova Scotia is rich in natural resources including biodiversity, forests, geological resources, provincial parks, and the land we manage. The Department of Natural Resources is responsible for the development, management, conservation and protection of forest, mineral, parks and wildlife resources and the administration of the province's Crown lands. Together we are working with Nova Scotians to build a better future through sustainable natural resource management as we all benefit from the natural health and wealth of the province.
Nova Scotia has entered into a joint agreement with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) to develop and deliver the Federal-Provincial Two Billion Trees program. The project is in two parts. Phase 1 focuses on scoping and development of the 2BT program including identification of partnership-based projects. These now form the basis for Phase 2 – Implementation. Both Phase 1 and Phase 2 will be the focus of this position.
About Our Opportunity
Under the supervision of the Manger, Forest Management Planning and Research and working closely with the 2BT program lead, the 2BT Coordinator assists the Program Specialist in the administration and delivery of an anticipated multi-year provincial tree planting program in support of the Federal 2-Billion Trees Initiative launched by NRCan in 2021.
Primary Accountabilities
Reporting to the Manager, Forest Management Planning and Research, your primary accountabilities will include:
Administer the provincial 2BT program, in close collaboration with a third-party delivery agent and program participants.
Ensure all timelines and reporting requirements are met and the program remains in compliance with guidelines out forth by the funding agencies (NRCan and NSDNRR).
Liaise with program partners, including government and non-government agencies, third-party program delivery agent, and project proponents.
Participate in steering committee meetings, provide technical support, evaluate project proposals, promote and implement new initiatives as needed.
Provide advice and guidance to program partners and participants during project development and implementation.
Conduct field visits and site assessments, collect relevant data to support project goals.
Work with program partners to ensure availability of wild tree seed for nursery stock production.
