Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic Operations lead, with organisational expertise in a technical environment. You will manage a team of 4-6 field technicians and additionally provide operational support to all staff in the maintenance hub. This includes recruitment and training and competencies facilitation, financial oversight and processing, and Organisational/Hub process management. The role is administration based, with opportunities to work in the field where required or as technical skills are gained.

Who are we?
The Observing Operations Hubs are the Bureau of Meteorology's Technical Operations centres comprising of 8 Hubs, one in each capital city and Cairns.

Staff based at the Observing Operations Hub travel far and wide and into remote areas, utilising 4WD's, plane's, boats, and helicopters to maintain service delivery within the various instrumentation networks. This includes:

Rain Radars
Automatic Weather Stations (AWS)
Upper-Air monitoring systems (sounding balloons)
Sea Level Monitoring Stations
Wave and Wave height buoys
Satellite ground reception and space weather instruments
Flood warning/rainfall monitoring systems
Cooperative observers, volunteer rainfall stations
Communications, telemetry and instrumentation systems
We are part of a national maintenance workforce and there is every likelihood of travel to other parts of Australia on occasion to support the other seven Hubs around the country.

We offer specialised, in-house competency-based training on all our equipment and will ensure you have the necessary tools and skills to undertake this work.
