Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Program Manager of ACARP (Acute Care Addiction Recovery Program), the Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RN/RPN) - ACARP UAH, works as a key member of the multidisciplinary ACARP team at the University of Alberta Hospital. This is a newly created team, and the successful candidate will be integral in the development of its cohesiveness. The RN/RPN collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to deliver patient-centered, trauma-informed, and evidence-based care for patients who use substances. By using a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach, the team strives to holistically support patients who want help for problematic substance use. The role includes providing comprehensive physical and mental health assessments, delivery of health promotion supplies and education to patients, clinical support and education for staff, take home naloxone kit distribution, and other education and support. The RN also works collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team providing consultation support to holistically care for patients. The RN/RPN will work collaboratively with UAH staff providing care for patients throughout the hospital. Involvement and planning of complex case reviews to support inpatient care plan goals and discharge planning to better facilitate recovery. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2026. Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience working with inner city/vulnerable populations. Minimum 2 years working in acute care environment. Strong communication skills. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications:
Connect Care experience an asset. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training. Motivational Interviewing.
