Description:

We are currently seeking a passionate and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Cheese Counter Salesperson at The Milk Maid Fine Cheese & Charcuterie in Port Elgin, ON. As a Cheese Counter Salesperson, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service while promoting and selling our wide selection of cheeses. This role requires a deep appreciation for cheese, excellent customer service and communication skills, and the ability to educate customers about different varieties and pairings.

Key Responsibilities:

Greet and assist customers in selecting cheeses based on their preferences and needs.
Provide detailed information about various cheeses, including origins, flavors, textures, and aging processes.
Offer recommendations for cheese pairings with wine, charcuterie, crackers, and other accompaniments.
Cut, wrap, and package cheese selections for customers.
Prepare made-to-order charcuterie boards according to the provided standards you’ll be trained on.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cheese counter and surrounding areas.
Monitor inventory levels and communicate restocking needs to management.
Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently using the point-of-sale system.
Uphold food safety and sanitation standards at all times.
Required skills and experience:

Previous experience in retail sales (preferably in a specialty gourmet food and/or cheese shop)
Willingness and ability to learn about the complex world of cheese (assuming no prior knowledge or experience)
Excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service
Strong interpersonal skills and a friendly demeanor
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and multitask
Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed
Self motivated and able to work effectively on your own most of the time
Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds
Must have (or be willing to obtain) a food handlers safety certificate
Desirable skills and experience:

Extensive knowledge of different types of cheese, including regional varieties, milk types, and flavor profiles.
General food knowledge, including cheese-based recipes, and wine pairings.
