Darjeeling Walks is an alternative travel organization dedicated to creating self-sustainable and improved living conditions in the hills through local employment and the rejuvenation of local arts, culture, and heritage. Our walking tours aim to rediscover the charm of Darjeeling while minimizing environmental impact by avoiding cars during tours. We enhance the local environment by collecting non-biodegradable trash and transforming it into reusable materials for locals. Our mission is to integrate local residents with tourists using alternative travel initiatives, making Darjeeling a natural sanatorium once again.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role located in Darjeeling for an Explorer. The Explorer will be responsible for leading and guiding walking tours through the Darjeeling hills, providing historical and cultural insights, and engaging with local residents and tourists. The role also involves ensuring the cleanliness of the trails by collecting non-biodegradable trash during walks and assisting in the transformation of collected waste into reusable materials. Additionally, the Explorer will contribute to the preservation and rejuvenation of local heritage and tourist attractions.

Qualifications
• Experience in leading tours and familiarity with Darjeeling’s culture, history, and geography
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Passion for environmental conservation and sustainable tourism
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Physical fitness and stamina to conduct walking tours
• Basic first aid knowledge and emergency preparedness
• Previous experience in the travel or tourism industry is a plus
• Fluency in English and local languages is highly desirable
