• Job Summary:
The Lab Assistant in the Forensic Lab will provide vital support to a team of forensic scientists and technicians in conducting various analyses and investigations. This role involves assisting in the processing of forensic evidence, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring adherence to strict protocols and quality standards.
• Key Responsibilities:
- Evidence Processing: Assist in the intake, cataloguing, and preparation of forensic evidence for analysis, ensuring proper chain of custody procedures are followed at all times.
- Laboratory Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and organization in the laboratory environment, including cleaning equipment, disposing of waste, and restocking supplies as needed.
- Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as microscopes, centrifuges, and chromatography instruments according to standard protocols.
- Data Entry and Documentation: Record and maintain accurate documentation of all laboratory activities, including sample information, test results, and any relevant observations.
- Quality Control: Assist in quality control procedures by participating in proficiency testing, calibrating equipment, and following established protocols to ensure accurate and reliable results.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols to minimize risks of contamination, injury, or exposure to hazardous materials.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with forensic scientists, technicians, and other team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of tasks.
- Training and Development: Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance knowledge of forensic techniques, laboratory procedures, and relevant technologies.
• Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and additional education or training in forensic science.
- Previous experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably in a forensic or scientific environment.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to accurately record data and maintain documentation.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions from senior staff members.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
- Visual acuity and manual dexterity are necessary for operating laboratory equipment and performing delicate tasks.
