Job Summary
The Safety and Legal Compliance Manager ensures the manufacturing facility operates in compliance with all occupational health and safety (OHS) laws, environmental regulations, and industry-specific legal standards. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing programs and procedures to maintain a safe working environment and mitigate legal risk.
Key Responsibilities
• Health & Safety Management:
• Develop, implement, and monitor workplace safety policies and procedures.
• Conduct risk assessments and safety audits.
• Investigate accidents and incidents; ensure root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Organize and lead safety training sessions, emergency response drills, and toolbox talks.
• Ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Legal and Regulatory Compliance:
• Stay updated with local, state, and federal laws (e.g., OSHA, EPA, labor laws).
• Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure timely reporting and documentation.
• Ensure all licenses, permits, and legal documentation are current.
• Support legal teams during inspections or compliance audits.
• Environmental Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations (air emissions, water discharge, waste disposal).
• Lead initiatives for sustainability and waste reduction.
• Prepare and submit environmental impact reports and audits.
• Documentation & Reporting:
• Maintain records of inspections, compliance reports, and incident logs.
• Prepare monthly/quarterly reports for senior management.
• Maintain MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) and safety documentation.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or Law.
• Certification in safety management (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, ISO 45001) preferred.
• Minimum 2 to 4 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Strong knowledge of national and local laws and regulations relevant to manufacturing.
• Excellent communication, training, and leadership skills.
