The Senior Accountant is part of the accounting team based in Calgary, AB, reporting directly to the Financial Controller. The sky is the limit for learning and career growth with this position!
Job Description
Responsible for the general ledger, including but not limited to, the validity, accuracy, existence, completeness, proper classification of the information in accordance with ASPE
Develop and document processes and controls, and identify areas for automation to improve the speed and efficiency of the monthly close process
Work closely with the Controller to document policies
Work cross functionally with finance, operations, and various business owners on a variety of projects
Prepares complex journal entries and review journal entries as well as maintain reconciliations
Prepare actual to forecast analyses
Support external audit requirements related to specific area of responsibility
Spearhead accurate and timely reporting during the month-end close process related to specific area of responsibility
Performs analysis and review of cost of goods sold including but not limited to: accruals, purchase price variances, labour charges, costing implications etc.
Prepares Cash forecasts and provides assistance to the Treasury department related to specific area of responsibility
Reviews more complex transactions and prepares reconciliations, adhering to compliance standards
Researches variances and proposes corrections
Participate in and help lead critical accounting projects, including audit readiness, consolidation process and management reporting
Prepares general ledger account reconciliations and account balance fluctuation analysis. Prepares standard and specialized financial and management reports as required in accordance with GAAP.
Assists in the preparation of external and internal reporting documents, monthly and quarterly financial statements and reports etc.
Assists in training new staff
Works on complex problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
Assist in the development and implementation of internal controls.
Effectively managing staff and working within accounting department team.
Working with managers of operating divisions where required.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
5+ years work experience in accounting, with at least 2 years at a senior accounting level
Legally eligible to work in Canada
Aviation industry knowledge or experience an asset
Experience working in a large organization an asset.
Strong knowledge of ASPE required
Professional Accounting certification an asset. Individuals nearing completion of a professional designation will be considered
Excellent attention to detail and documentary skills
Excellent excel and technology skills required
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to multitask in an ever-changing environment
Work well in a team environment and within a team, leadership qualities are important.
Legally eligible to travel internationally when required.
Ability to work with industry software and previous Accounting or ERP software.
Shows integrity, ingenuity, and assertiveness in the performance of tasks
Required Competencies
