Assistant Financial Controller

Edmonton based company with over 25 years of success in construction, landscaping, directional drilling, & Asphalt repairs. As we continue our growth trajectory, we are seeking a motivated Assistant Financial Controller to support the financial health of our operations. This is a critical role for a detail-oriented and organized professional with construction industry experience who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

Assist in managing all accounting operations including billing, A/R, A/P, GL, cost accounting, and revenue recognition
Oversee and ensure timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close
Support financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes
Analyze and report on job costs, work-in-progress (WIP), and margin trends
Assist with internal and external audits
Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and construction-specific financial requirements
Collaborate closely with project managers and field teams on financial matters
Supervise and mentor a team of accountants, AP/AR specialists, and payroll staff
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
3+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in the construction sector
Familiarity with construction accounting software (ex. QuickBooks desktop, or similar)
Advanced MS Excel skills and experience with financial reporting tools
Strong understanding of GAAP and WIP reporting
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in construction, landscaping or related industries
Knowledge of LMN, Smartsheet, DEXT, or similar project management/AP automation tools is an asset
Background in managing intercompany transactions
Proficiency in Spanish is an asset
