Description

The Brandon Sun has an upcoming opening for a full-time reporter/photographer in our sports department.

We are looking for a talented writer who has a passion for sports and is able to find and produce compelling stories and features for our newspaper and online products.

Brandon and southwest Manitoba have a vibrant local sports scene, and the Sun makes every effort to cover local athletes, whether they compete in high school sports or junior and university leagues and beyond. Our focus on local coverage is what sets us apart.

The region is also known for hosting large sporting events, such as the 2026 U Sports Men’s Volleyball National Championship in Brandon this past spring, the Western Canadian Powerlifting Championships, the Softball Canada U15 Girl's Fast Pitch, and countless other sports tournaments and championships.

We expect all applicants to have a valid driver's license and own a reliable vehicle. This position requires evening and weekend work. Salary is commensurate with experience, as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Brandon Sun also offers a comprehensive and generous suite of benefits.

A variety of sports knowledge and/or experience
A degree or diploma in journalism or related experience
Prior daily newspaper experience is an asset
Willingness to adapt to new trends in online reporting
Layout and design skills with InDesign or equivalent.
Experience with online content management systems

This position will remain open until we find a suitable candidate. Please send your resume, cover letter (stating you found this job on Jeff Gaulin's Journalism Job Board) and samples of your work to:
