Apply your secretariat and event management skills to support the Friends of the National Library
A rare chance to work across the Library to organise events and grow the membership of this 35-year old organisation
Non-ongoing, part-time opportunity, 4 days per week until 26 June 2026

The Library is seeking to fill a non-ongoing APS5 Friends Executive Officer role, part-time, 4 days per week, until 26 June 2026.

The Role
The Friends Executive Officer manages the membership program for the Friends of the National Library of Australia Inc, ensuring accurate records, responding to enquiries, and promoting member engagement and membership.

The role provides secretariat support to the Friends Committee, including meeting coordination, minute-taking, and offering informed advice. The Executive Officer is responsible for managing and reporting on the program’s finances, maintaining detailed financial records, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements. A key part of the role involves working across the Library to plan and deliver Friends events including lectures, exhibition openings and social gatherings. The Executive Officer also drafts articles and publicity materials and oversees the Friends membership program.

We are looking for someone who demonstrates professionalism, initiative, and strong organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. They will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling them to engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders including committee members, Library staff, members of the public, and external partners. Experience in event coordination, financial administration, and secretariat support will be highly regarded. In return, this is a wonderful opportunity to showcase your stakeholder engagement skills while supporting a wonderful group that share a passion for the Library and its collection.

The Opportunity
This role is only available to ongoing National Library of Australia and APS employees as a temporary transfer at level and/or a temporary performance (acting) opportunity from 4 August 2026 to 26 June 2026.
