Responsibilities

Responsible for reviewing and evaluating clinical records to determine accuracy and integrity of coding outcome versus clinical documentation and compliance with coding regulations and guidelines. Independently uses knowledge of clinical medicine, clinical documentation, and quality reporting rules and procedures to provide a second level review of codes assigned to a clinical episode of care, ensuring that medical codes assigned conform to legal and procedural requirements. Works collaboratively with coding specialists to assure that coding outcomes accurately reflect the clinical episode and the provider documentation of the diagnoses, treatments, and procedures related to the episode of care. Identifies opportunities to improve clinical documentation and coding procedures based on trending data of outcomes, and uses knowledge of systems and procedures to collaboratively work to improve outcomes. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of the Organization. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support the Organization's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience
At least 5 years experience in quality improvement and/or inpatient clinical documentation improvement, with knowledge of ICD-10 and chart abstraction methodology. Associate's Degree
Required Licensure and Certifications
Current California RN License
Preferred Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Field
Preferred Education and Experience
Time Management and Reliability, Teamwork, Behavioral Standards and Customer Service.
