Title: Tax and Insurance Accountants
Position Type: Temporary - 6 months
Location: New York, NY
Hours: TBD
Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
About the Role:
We’re looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Tax & Insurance Accountant to join our Finance team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for processing and monitoring tax and insurance payments, maintaining financial accuracy, and supporting cross-functional teams such as Asset Management. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven organization and is eager to make an impact through accuracy, consistency, and collaboration.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring financial compliance, maintaining clear records, and producing accurate reporting that supports the organization’s long-term goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Process real estate tax and insurance payments accurately and on schedule

Prepare detailed reports and analyses for tax, insurance, and reserve for replacement accounts

Assist with monthly reconciliation of tax and insurance clearing accounts

Maintain and update a list of outstanding project-related tax and insurance bills for Asset Management

Manage the T&I tickler report to track payment and reporting schedules

Verify bank transactions against source documentation and ensure accuracy

Monitor and follow up on outstanding items in monthly bank reconciliations

Review and validate general ledger postings, ensuring accuracy and compliance

Prepare and file annual 1099 tax forms in accordance with federal regulations

Collaborate with internal teams and perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

2–4 years of progressive accounting experience (experience in government or nonprofit sectors is a plus)

Familiarity with tax and insurance processes, escrow accounts, and real estate financing structures including mortgages and municipal bond funding

Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain exceptional attention to detail

Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal

Self-starter with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Experience with Tier 1 ERP systems (e.g., Oracle EBS, SAP, etc.) is a plus
