ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a talented content creator to help us create episodes for our YouTube show How to Survive. You’ll be responsible for writing and editing a variety of long-form videos. These will range from hosted episodes to video essays with 3D animations and more. You should be an expert visual storyteller who can present factual information and narratives in an engaging way. You understand what makes a YouTube video great and know how to hook the audience and keep them watching from start to finish.

NOTE: This role is only for permanent residents in Ontario, Canada. Applicants that don’t reside in Ontario won’t be considered.

ABOUT YOU
• You are located in Ontario, Canada
• You have a strong portfolio showing your best video editing and script-writing work
• You’re a natural visual storyteller. You understand both story arcs and viral footage.
• You are a natural team player, receptive to feedback and communicate clearly
• You have excellent time-managing skills and the ability to prioritize effectively
• You’re passionate about survival, digital storytelling and YouTube

QUALIFICATIONS YOU BRING
• Proven track record of writing and editing breakout YouTube videos (share examples)
• Excellent command of the English language, with an ability to write captivating video scripts about survival topics and stories.
• Creative thinking and the ability to write hooks and story arcs with video retention in mind.
• Strong research skills and a passion for digging deep into survival stories
• Expert knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects
• Experienced with YouTube video grammar (e.g. intro, hook, body, payoff etc)
• Ability to find footage from a variety of sources
• Ability to efficiently work remotely without direct supervision
• Ability to communicate effectively and timely, working as part of a team
• Experience logging footage and editing longer-form documentaries

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Create multiple videos a month. This includes researching, writing and editing
• Work closely with the showrunner on refining scripts and videos, going through notes and revisions
• Consistently implement showrunner feedback, making each video better than the last
• Adhere to deadlines and stay on top of projects
• Create engaging videos that resonate with our audience
