Position Summary:


The Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) will oversee the accounting function of a dynamic and growing real estate development and management company. The CAO is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial reporting, compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements, and the development and implementation of accounting policies and controls. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in real estate accounting, including development projects and joint ventures.


Key Responsibilities:


Direct all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and treasury.
Manage financial reporting processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable tax laws.
Oversee preparation and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
Lead the coordination and execution of annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
Implement and maintain robust internal controls and accounting procedures.
Partner with development, asset management, and property management teams to provide project-level financial insights.
Work closely with tax advisors to ensure accurate and timely tax planning and compliance.
Supervise the accounting teams for each project, communicating key points directly to owners.
Participate in ERP selection, implementation, and optimization as needed.

Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA required.
10+ years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Experience in real estate development and equity method accounting.
Familiarity with job costing and ERP software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, Sage, Procore) is a plus.
Exceptional analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Experience working with real estate partnerships and joint ventures.
Exposure to fund accounting and investor reporting frameworks.
Proven ability to scale accounting functions in a growth-oriented environment.
