The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is a multi-mission science and operations center for NASA’s flagship observatories. The Cloud Center of Excellence at the Space Telescope Science Institute is seeking a Principal AWS Cloud DevOps engineer to join our team working on NASA flagship Space Telescope missions that are revolutionizing our understanding of the universe. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Residence for ITAR compliance.
Job Description
The Software Engineer will work on writing a C library implementing the ASDF format. A Python implementation of the format exists as a reference. The SE will work with a team of other developers working on ASDF.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
• Proficient in C with proven experience in developing C libraries
• Experience with Python is desirable
• Familiarity with YAML, JSON, HDF5 or other data formats
• Familiarity with open development environments
• Knowledge of Git and Git workflows in a team setting
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
Work on a C library implementing the ASDF format. The contract will be for one year with a possible extension after that. ------- Dan will be working on a C implementation of the ASDF standard. This work is part of a larger effort to popularize ASDF and engage the community. Dan will be the main developer and will be integrated with the SCSB branch, working with the other engineers in the branch. Having a C library will allow access to ASDF files (Roman and JWST) from languages other than Python, something that Roman users have repeatedly requested.
