Job Description
Job description
π We promise more than a job, we offer a career you can build.
1 β Who We Are
Weβre the Canadian entity of ABMI, a French engineering and consulting group with over 35 years of experience delivering high-level expertise in highly regulated industries such as nuclear energy, aerospace, and life sciences.
ABMI is part of House of ABY, which unites 11 subsidiaries, each with unique specialties, but all with one common vision : delivering excellence through deep, focused technical expertise. At ABMI, we donβt try to do it all, we choose to specialize, and thatβs where our strength lies.
Thanks to our long-standing reputation in Europe and our strong presence at major industry events like the World Nuclear Exhibition in Paris, our name has crossed borders. It was in fact our clients, some of the biggest players in the nuclear and aerospace sectors, who came to us, expressing a desire to work with us in Canada.
With a shared ambition to bring our consulting expertise overseas, ABMI Canada came to life. This marks the start of something new, and weβre building on it every day.
2 β What Youβll Do
About the Role
Join a leading engineering firm supporting the refurbishment and life extension of Ontarioβs nuclear fleet. As part of the provinceβs clean energy strategy, this multi-year program ensures the long-term sustainability, safety, and performance of nuclear generating stations. We are seeking a skilled Steel Structural Engineer to contribute technical expertise to one of the most critical infrastructure modernization projects in Canada.
The Steel Structural Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, assessment, and modification of steel structures in support of nuclear plant refurbishment activities. The role includes ensuring structural integrity, compliance with nuclear codes and standards, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities :
β’ Perform structural analysis and design of steel frameworks, platforms, supports, and pipe racks within nuclear facilities
β’ Prepare detailed engineering drawings, calculations, technical specifications, and design reports
β’ Assess existing steel structures for refurbishment, reinforcement, or replacement
β’ Apply Canadian and nuclear-specific codes and standards (e.g., CSA N287, CSA S16, ASME, AISC)
β’ Conduct site assessments, field walkdowns, and provide construction support
β’ Contribute to the preparation of safety and licensing documentation
β’ Ensure all deliverables comply with nuclear safety, QA/QC, and regulatory requirements
β’ Provide input during constructability reviews and participate in design reviews
3 β Why Join Us?
This is more than a project, itβs the start of a journey, and you can be part of it from day one.
At ABMI, we combine the strength of an established European group with the proximity and agility of a growing team. Based in Toronto, we're building something meaningfulβand you can help us shape it.
By joining us, youβll be part of a consulting company, β not a staffing agency. Your expertise matters, your ideas are heard, and your role evolves with you.
Youβll benefit from:
β’ π‘ Real technical experience on large-scale nuclear projects working directly with the client. Youβll see the real impact of your work and have the opportunity to take on different roles or projects over time, expanding your expertise while staying supported by ABMI every step of the way.
β’ π€ A supportive environment, with a dedicated ABMI manager holds regular check-ins to ensure you have the onboarding, tools, and training to succeed β plus the option for a coffee catch-up if needed (poutine totally approved π).
β’ π§ Clear and structured career paths, whether you aim to grow into technical leadership or management
β’ π Personalized support to develop your skills, expand your knowledge, and reach your goals (training workshops, e-learning platform, mentoring, and and be part of our international technical community, with opportunities to learn from experts across ABMIβs global teams.)
This is a springboard role, an opportunity to build your technical career in Canada while being part of something bigger.
4 β Who You Are
β’ Bachelorβs Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Masterβs preferred)
β’ Minimum 5 years of experience in structural engineering, with at least 2 in the nuclear or heavy industrial sector
β’ Strong knowledge of steel design principles and Canadian building codes (CSA S16, NBCC, etc.)
β’ Familiarity with nuclear-grade quality requirements and safety culture
β’ Experience with structural analysis software (e.g., STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ANSYS, or similar)
β’ Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensed in Ontario
β’ Strong technical writing, communication, and teamwork skills
ABMI is an Equal Opportunity Employer: We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates, regardless of race, gender, disability, π³οΈπsexual orientation, or background.
5 β Our Culture
At ABMI, culture is a core value, itβs the foundation of how we work, grow, and succeed together. Each of our values has real meaning, and we make sure it shows in our day-to-day actions.
Hereβs what we stand for, and what it truly means:
β’ Expertise
We donβt pretend to know everything. Instead, we go deep. We specialize, we train continuously, and we always bring in the right people for the right challenges.
β’ Agility
Itβs not about moving fast for the sake of it. Itβs about adapting to real-world project needs, client expectations, regulatory shifts, or technical hurdles, without ever compromising on quality.
β’ Proximity
We stay close to our consultants. That means regular check-ins, on-site visits, one-on-one time, and honest conversations. Youβre never just a name in a spreadsheet.
6 β Compensation & Benefits
We keep things transparent, with no surprises. Hereβs what we offer:
π Full-time employment (β not freelance/contractor)
π° Competitive salary based on experience
π©Ί Private health insurance
π΄ 15+ days paid vacation (based on seniority)
π‘ Hybrid work model (some on-site presence required)
π Team events and moments that matter
7 β Recruitment Process

β’ Optional : Technical interview with one of our nuclear experts, if necessary for role validation
