We’re BDO. An accountancy and business advisory firm, providing the advice and solutions entrepreneurial organisations need to navigate today’s changing world.
We work with the companies that are Britain’s economic engine – ambitious, entrepreneurially-spirited and high‑growth businesses that fuel the economy - and directly advise the owners and management teams that lead them.
We’ll broaden your horizons
Our rapidly growing Private Client Team manage unincorporated businesses, partnerships, trusts, individuals and their wider families, including working with many successful entrepreneurs. Alongside solving a constantly evolving range of technical challenges, working in this team involves building strong relationships with individuals so you can become their trusted advisor and oversee their tax affairs in line with what they want to achieve as an individual or business.
Whilst this role is Edinburgh/Glasgow based, you will form part of our National Private Client Team, a key part of our wider Scotland Tax Team, supported by our North regional offices and national expertise.
We’ve established a strong global network that is recognised as a leader especially in looking after high net worth individuals, entrepreneurs and owner-managed businesses. You’ll need excellent people skills and strong technical ability as you meet clients across the UK. In return, you’ll have unparalleled access to partners and opportunities to develop your career in many different directions as you work across a truly diverse portfolio of global clients.
We’ll help you succeed
Leading organisations trust us because of the quality of our advice. That quality grows from a thorough understanding of their business, and that understanding comes from working closely with them and building long-lasting relationships.
Here, you’ll have the opportunity to expand and strengthen your skillset and gain an invaluable insight into the wider Tax business within BDO. You’ll be supported to develop your career and help others do the same, all while undertaking an exciting, varied workload for a broad range of clients.
Key to the role is for the individual to have strong technical skills in relation to the fundamentals of the UK personal tax system and the ability to pro-actively manage their own workload, communicating with senior management across the Scottish and wider national team. A high performing individual will also be able to consider and highlight further opportunities to develop new work.
Role Requirements:
Strong level of technical competency on routine personal tax compliance and ad hoc advisory work
Tax advisory experience preferable but not essential
Supervisory experience of coaching and developing junior staff
Maintaining an in-depth and up to date knowledge of personal taxation
Ability to manage a broad client portfolio including KYC and billing.
To actively seek opportunities for business development to existing and new clients
Educated to degree level and/or ATT/CTA or CA/ACCA qualified or equivalent
As part of your role you will be involved in:
Looking after a portfolio of private clients, considering and anticipating their needs, working closely with managers, senior managers, directors and partners delivering a client-centric service.
Reviewing work completed by our shared service centre.
Assisting senior members of our team with the development of targets to ensure continued growth of the business.
Assisting senior members of our team with more complex client work.
Ensuring that the firm’s quality control procedures are adhered to.
