Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Accounting and Finance, the General Accountant is responsible for maintaining accounting records and financial information.
Position Responsibilities
Reconciles Operating and Accounts Payable Bank Accounts
Reconciles Prepaid Expenses Account
Notifies Student Accounts, Advancement, and Accounting of Bank Activity related to their area
Tracks cash and check deposits to ensure all deposits have been posted
Reviews Cash Receipt journal entries done by Accounts Payable
Answers questions of university personnel regarding accounting procedures and inquiries
Prepares journal entries and posting to the accounting system
Reconciles Virtuous software data to general ledger
Assists with year-end audit
Responsible for the monthly reporting and entering of fixed assets into the Colleague system.
Tracks Construction-In-Progress and reconciles CIP account
Supports special projects and other financial/accounting functions as required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Business with emphasis in accounting, or closely related field from a regionally accredited college/university; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Entry level to 2 years of working experience in accounting, preferable in higher education or a non-profit environment
Computer literacy and proven skill with spreadsheets applications.
Able to handle and maintain confidential information
Must have excellent attention to detail
Effective written and verbal communication skills and a customer services orientation are essential.
Demonstrated initiative and strong work ethic
