Full job description
The Toronto Retina Institute is a state of the art retina practice located in Toronto and the surrounding GTA. We are currently seeking a full time qualified ophthalmic assistant/receptionist to join our dynamic team in our new location in Markham. The successful candidate will be responsible for offering quality customer service by applying the techniques associated with their area of focus and ensure that business guidelines and a high level of patient care is always maintained. Organization, excellent communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure, are among the qualities needed for this fast paced working environment. This position will require a flexible schedule (early morning starts, late afternoons and weekends). The duties associated with this position are as follows, but not limited to, preliminary history taking, visual acuity testing, diagnostic testing (OCT, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography, visual field testing) and tonometry. We provide competitive compensation. The successful candidate requires a minimum of 2 years experience in an ophthalmology/optometry setting.

Duties:

- Perform preliminary eye examinations, including taking patient history and measuring visual acuity
- Conduct diagnostic tests, such as tonometry and visual field testing
- Assist ophthalmologists during procedures and surgeries
- Administer eye medications as directed by the ophthalmologist
- Maintain accurate and detailed electronic medical records
- Educate patients on proper eye care and contact lens use
- Clean and maintain ophthalmic equipment and instruments

`Requirements
- Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting preferred
- Knowledge of electronic medical records systems
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
