FINANCIAL CONTROLLER
About us:
Jane Clayton and Company is a profitable, fast-growing online interiors retailer. We specialise in luxury designer fabrics, wallpapers and bespoke soft furnishings, offering over 70,000 products from brands such as Farrow & Ball, Mulberry, Ralph Lauren, and Sanderson.
We're a team of 40 based in modern offices in Paulton, and 2026 was a big year for us: we launched in the US, introduced an off-price Outlet channel, and became the official brand store for Morris & Co. With strong momentum, we’re looking for a Financial Controller to help steer our continued growth.
The role:
We’re looking for a commercially minded Financial Controller to lead our finance function. You’ll manage a small team, ensure operational excellence in accounting, and deliver high-quality management information that supports strategic decision-making. This is a hands-on role, perfect for someone who enjoys both the detail and the big picture, and wants to help finance be a true partner to the business.
Your responsibilities:
Team leadership: Manage and develop a team of two, setting clear goals and offering coaching and support.
Operational finance: Oversee transactional accounting, including supplier payments, reconciliations, and credit control.
Financial systems & processes: Maintain robust processes and controls. We use NetSuite as our ERP, alongside other best-in-class tools.
Payroll: Run monthly payroll and pension submissions, including adjustments.
Reporting & analysis: Prepare monthly management accounts with a strong focus on segmental reporting and KPIs.
Year-end & compliance: Lead the year-end process with external accountants. Oversee VAT and other regulatory filings.
Cash & treasury management: Plan and forecast payments, optimise working capital, and manage banking relationships.
Business partnering: Work closely with senior leadership to provide insights, improve financial decision-making, and shape business strategy.
What we're looking for:
Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA)
Strong commercial acumen and analytical mindset
Proven leadership and team development experience
ERP experience (NetSuite a bonus)
Excellent Excel skills
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
Why join us?:
Competitive salary with up to 10% bi-annual bonus
33 days holiday (incl. bank holidays)
Hybrid working: Home on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (optional)
Flexitime options
Excellent benefits: company pension, life insurance, income protection, cycle to work, employee discount scheme
A collaborative, positive culture where your work has real impact
