Te āheinga: The opportunity

The Access Learning Advisor plays a key role in the provision and coordination of strategies and services that ensure students with disabilities can participate equitably in their academic pursuits at Unitec. As an Access Learning Advisor you will be working with a diverse range of students in partnership with Unitec staff and the wider community, in the context that all students are expected to be independent and active in their studies at Unitec.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

Working with a diverse range of students with specific learning differences including dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, Autism, Deaf and vision impaired
Providing academic advice to students and staff to support a barrier free environment and to ensure learning access for learners with disabilities
Coordinating strategies and services that enable equitable participation for the student
Developing and maintaining learning resources for Learners with Impairments, and is proactive in promoting disability awareness on the Unitec campus
Working in partnership with the Assistive Technology advisor to support students digital learning needs
Facilitate the appropriate referral of students to support services both within and external to Unitec
Represent Access4Success Disability Services team and actively participate in forums and meetings where appropriate

He kōrero mōu: About you

Relevant qualification and/or experience in the field of disability, health or education
3+ year's experience working in the disability and/or tertiary sector
Demonstrated ability in needs assessment and the coordination of services and learning resources
Ability to interact sensitively and empathetically with students experiencing a wide range of challenges, stress and anxiety in relation to their studies
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work effectively in an environment of service transformation and technology advancement
Strong organisational skills
