Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About Us

The Consult Liaison and Emergency Department (ED) Psychiatry team is a dedicated group of Psychiatrists and Nurses who work with Tangata whai I te ora (those seeking wellness) admitted to the hospitals' ED and Assessment & Diagnostic Unit (ADU), and those in wards who are affected by mental health issues and concurrent physical health issues. The Liaison Psychiatry team will conduct assessments and provide advise on treatment and appropriate follow-up care for the patients with mental health concerns. This team is an integral part of the wider Specialised Mental Health and Addictions division.

About the Role

We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist who demonstrates excellence in clinical practice, a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to providing culturally responsive clinical care for Tāngata whai i te ora and their whānau.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist role involves autonomous practice and will support diverse and at times challenging presentations including intoxication in the emergency department and hospital wards. You will actively lead complex care planning and multi-agency care planning in collaboration with whānau, community agencies and other health professionals. At a local and national level, you will develop and influence policy.

You will be responsible for ongoing education to staff from other specialties to support ongoing improvement in practice, understanding and capability when caring for those with mental health and addiction needs. A core aspect of the Clinical Nurse Specialist role within this service is the promotion of a positive culture of respect and partnership which is grounded in mannakitanga, whanaungatanga and kotahitanga.
