Full job description
We are seeking a meticulous and reliable Accounting Officer to manage day-to-day financial operations and support the organisation’s financial compliance and reporting obligations. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting business sustainability, ensuring accuracy in financial processes, and maintaining records in line with ASQA, CRICOS, and RTO Standards 2015 and 2026 requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Process accounts payable and receivable, including invoicing, receipts, and payments
Reconcile bank statements, student fee payments, and financial ledgers regularly
Assist in preparing monthly financial reports, budgets, and cash flow forecasts
Ensure timely payment of wages, superannuation, BAS, GST, and PAYG obligations
Support the preparation of financial documentation for audits and compliance reviews
Maintain student financial records and work closely with the admissions and compliance teams to ensure fee transparency
Monitor outstanding student fees and follow up on payment plans and debt recovery processes
Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and tax agents as required
Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards, ASQA financial viability requirements, and RTO reporting obligations
Assist in maintaining financial policies and internal control procedures
Requirements:

Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Minimum 2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience (RTO or education sector preferred)
Solid understanding of Australian taxation (GST, PAYG, BAS) and accounting compliance requirements
Proficient in accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks
Strong Microsoft Excel and general IT skills
High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with staff, students, and third parties
Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion
Desirable:

Experience working in a CRICOS-registered RTO environment
Knowledge of student management systems (e.g., aXcelerate, Wisenet) for finance integration
Understanding of the financial compliance obligations under the Standards for RTOs 2026
