Job Title: Mechanical Engineer / PlumberLocation: HMP NorthumberlandEmployer: Sodexo Government – Facilities ManagementAbout the Role:Sodexo Government is seeking a skilled and dedicated Plumber to join our Facilities Management team at HMP Northumberland. This key role involves using your trade skills to provide installation, testing, examination, and maintenance of mechanical and plumbing systems throughout the prison.Key Responsibilities:Carry out inspections, maintenance, and testing of onsite systems to ensure reliability and compliance with safety standards.Interpret technical diagrams and operational instructions to deliver effective maintenance and installation services.Perform a wide range of mechanical and plumbing repairs, including heating, ventilation, and water systems, and basic electrical tasks.Support the improvement of resident decency standards through inspection and maintenance activities.Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repairs, and testing in accordance with audit and regulatory requirements.Escort specialist contractors on-site and support them as needed.Adhere to all Health and Safety policies and participate in the on-call rota to provide out-of-hours support.Undertake other duties that contribute to the safe and effective operation of the prison.Person Specification:Served a recognised apprenticeship with relevant trade qualifications.High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively or independently.A proactive, systematic approach to tasks, with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise effectively.Positive approach to Health and Safety practices.Physically fit, with the ability to work at height, in confined spaces, and with power tools.Willingness to undergo additional training, such as locksmith’s course, as required.Core Competencies:Technical proficiency in mechanical and plumbing systems.Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.Commitment to high standards of workmanship and continuous improvement.Ability to read and interpret technical documentation.Adherence to Sodexo’s policies and procedures.Working with Sodexo is more than a job; it’s a chance to be part of something greater.You’ll belong in a company and team that values you for you; you’ll act with purpose and have an impact through your everyday actions; and you’ll be able to thrive in your own way. We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Plumber in HMP Manchester, 1 Southall Street, Manchester M60 9AH.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week. Staff are required to work on a rota basis between 08:00 - 17:00. There will be a need to work 1 in 4 weekends but this would be on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary).

At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons. By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

What you will do:
• Routine and non-routine maintenance.
• Mains water supply repairs.
• Fault finding Identification of life expired equipment, checking, repairing and making good faults.
• Inspections, water sampling and risk assessment.

What you will bring:
• Full driving licence
• Experience in a commercial environment
• Experience in operating light plant
• NVQ level 3 in Plumbing and Heating is preferred (we may consider NVQ level 2)
• Legionella Control (L8) is desirable
