Job Summary

Summary: The Plumber Apprentice performs a variety of Plumber maintenance duties for the facility’s Maintenance Department, and is assigned to work for a Plumber Senior Technician on a regular basis. The Plumber Apprentice associate is in an apprentice program guided by his project manager, mentor, supervisor and apprentice advisory training committee.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Identifies the location of leaks and make repairs.
• Repairs or replaces parts.
• Determines the equipment, tools or materials needed for tasks.
• Solves simple plumbing problems.
• Maintains OJT logs, performs rounds, and completes maintenance work orders, tests, and inspections.
• Maintains facility and campus grounds, shops, and mechanical areas in a clean and safe manner.
• Attends classroom a minimum of 144 hours per year.
• Learns and utilizes the site CMMS.
• Updates work statuses and documents tasks completed in the CMMS utilizing a mobile device in real time.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Must be registered in a Plumber Apprentice Program with USDOL.
• Rudimentary ability to utilize hand-operated construction equipment.
• Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds and kneel/bend/stoop and perform strenuous labor for extended periods of time.

Working Conditions:
• Some exposure to elevated degrees of high heat, noise, dust, dirt and/or areas requiring infection control. Requires meeting deadlines for completion of work on a daily basis. Must be able to work all hours, including weekends and nights, as necessary, in order to maintain facility at the appropriate and safe level.

Downey Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning is looking for a full time Plumbing Technician who has experience running service & repair for both residential and light commercial. (We are not currently hiring HVAC Techs). We service the South Bay, south LA and north Orange counties. We are looking for Plumbing Techs who thrive in an environment that rewards their hustle, efficiency and time management skills. Someone who likes a variety of types of plumbing trade work, and likes being part of a great team of Technicians, will enjoy working with us.

Here at Downey Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, we believe in providing our Technicians ongoing opportunities for growth. For example, after some time working for us, we pay for (and ensure the Tech is off the job in time to attend) Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Contractor School (PHCC). We have weekly company meetings which include ongoing education. Mentoring & Coaching, along with collaboration, are a huge part of our company culture. Every Tech has the full support of the owner and Field Supervisor, who between them have over 52 years of trade experience to share. We encourage Technicians to find a niche in the trade that interests them and we actively look for ways to get them on those jobs and create additional business in that area. We believe in supporting our Techs as they strive to grow their trade skills, workmanship and scope of knowledge.

Job Responsibilities

Responsible for running service for residential & light commercial clients, in company provided service vehicles, while providing excellent customer service from beginning to end of each job. The Technician crew rotates an on call shift at a rate of approximately one shift per 5-7 weeks. Our work orders, dispatching, invoicing and internal communication is paperless so Techs will be managing a company provided cell phone throughout the workday.

Job Requirements:

We are looking for Technicians with a minimum of 1 year of experience in Service & Repair Plumbing. Must have clean driving record for the last 3 consecutive years (5 for DUI & texting violations). We are looking for someone who likes to learn, wants to plant roots in our company and is good at problem solving, critical thinking, communication and multi-tasking. Must be able to easily use a smart phone.

Able to troubleshoot and clear/repair/install water, sewer & gas service lines, stoppages, water heaters, plumbing fixtures & equipment.
