About Mackenzie District Council (Team Mack)
At Mackenzie District Council we work together as a team to deliver the best outcomes for our district. We are crafting new ways of working together, and each one of us has an essential role in making our district the best place to live, work and play.
This could be the first step on a journey that sees you living and working in this iconic part of New Zealand. People travel from all parts of New Zealand and the world to experience our back yard with its geography dominated by the iconic Aoraki Mount Cook, and Lakes Tekapo and Pukaki provide a fantastic opportunity to escape the urban sprawl. With only a 45-minute drive from Timaru, you get the best of both worlds – experience the seaside in the city and the mountains in the mighty Mackenzie!
As part of Team Mack, we aim for superb service to our customers, working together as a team, building a culture where we can all contribute our ideas, by focusing on outcomes.
About the Role
The Resource Management Compliance Officer plays a pivotal part in ensuring compliance with MDC’s District Plan and resource consent conditions. This role works with communities in the Mackenzie District, resource consent holders, and stakeholders to facilitate positive outcomes for the district. Our Councillors have requested this new role to increase our current regulatory compliance staff resources.
Key responsibilities include:
Researching, investigating and implementing necessary compliance or enforcement actions to ensure positive outcomes in response to potential breaches of the District Plan or the Resource Management Act.
Managing and investigating related public enquiries and complaints.
Overseeing, supporting and completing monitoring activities for resource consents, including regular and ongoing assessments of consent conditions.
Educating and informing landowners and consent holders on their requirement to comply with the District Plan and consent conditions.
Ensuring Council is keeping up to date with industry best practice methods, and process improvement opportunities are identified and implemented.
About You
Ideally you will have a tertiary qualification in resource management or similar, and at least five years’ experience in monitoring and enforcement – or demonstrated equivalent experience. You will have a strong understanding of the RMA as well as excellent relationship and communication skills.
You will also have:
Preferably, experience working in local government
Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively and confidently interact with the public
Demonstrated experience in database management and administration, and working with Microsoft Office
Proven ability to work well in a team and autonomously
A full, valid driver’s licence
This is a full time, permanent role (40 hours per week) based out of our Fairlie or Twizel office. To find out more about this role click here to access the position description. If you have any questions about the role, contact Nicole Colvill HR & H&S Coordinator at nicole.colvill@mackenzie.govt.nz or 027 217 6858.
We have some fantastic employee benefits at MDC including discounted fuel and retail discounts, paid special leave to cover medical appointments and professional services, and professional memberships.
If you have the skills and experience, we’re looking for, and are excited to work in the mighty Mackenzie, apply today to join Team Mack!
