Positions Available: Two (2) full-time Kitchen Assistant roles

Hours of Work: Minimum 30 hours per week (rostered within operating hours below)

Pay Rate: $24.00 per hour

About Us

The Sandwich Factory is a busy local lunch bar in Onekawa, Napier. We prepare fresh pies,

sandwiches, and cabinet food daily for our customers. Our team works in a fast-paced

environment where reliability, teamwork, and a strong work ethic are essential to keeping up

with demand.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

● Assist cooks and bakers with food preparation (washing, peeling, chopping,

portioning ingredients)

● Set up workstations and prepare ingredients for daily service

● Operate basic kitchen equipment safely under supervision

● Wash and sanitize dishes, trays, utensils, and kitchen equipment

● Maintain cleanliness of benches, preparation areas, storage areas, and floors to food

hygiene standards

● Assist with cooking preparation and replenishing food display cabinets

● Receive and unpack deliveries, check expiry dates, and rotate stock

● Dispose of waste and recyclables correctly

● Follow all health, safety, and food hygiene procedures

● Support team members during busy service periods and assist in end-of-day

cleaning and kitchen close-down

Skills and Experience Required

● At least one year of experience in a commercial kitchen or bakery is required to

keep up with the fast-paced workflow and early start times

● Basic knowledge of food hygiene and safe food handling practices

● Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently in a busy team environment

● Reliable, punctual, and physically able to perform kitchen tasks

● Strong work ethic with flexibility to work within our trading hours as required

● Willingness to work on weekends

Hours and Work Schedule

This is a full-time role with a minimum of 30 hours per week.

Work is rostered within our trading hours of Monday to Friday (3:30 AM – 4:00 PM),

Saturday (5:00 AM – 2:00 PM), and occasional Sunday prep work (3–4 hours as

required).

Flexibility is required to work shifts scheduled within these operating hours depending on

business needs.
