Location: Te Rapa, Hamilton, Waikato
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary: NZD $25 - $28per hour (based on experience)

Indian traditional retail small store is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Tailor / Dressmaker with strong expertise in Indian traditional and custom clothing. The ideal candidate will be confident working with premium fabrics and crafting high-quality, made-to-measure garments for cultural events, weddings, and festivals.

About this role.

In this role, you will be responsible for stitching, altering, and finishing a range of ethnic garments including sarees, lehengas, blouses, salwar suits, and customised outfits. You will work closely with clients to create elegant designs tailored for occasions such as Diwali, Pongal, cultural dance events, and other celebrations.

Key Responsibilities

Custom stitching, alterations, and finishing of sarees, lehengas, salwar suits, blouses, and other ethnic garments.
Measuring, pattern cutting, and conducting garment fittings based on client requirements.
Handling and styling premium Indian fabrics such as Banarasi, Kanchipuram, chiffon, cotton, silk, and brocade.
Alterations for Men’s clothing as required.
Creating and modifying designs for cultural performances and festive events.
Managing client consultations, fittings, and final-quality checks.
Ensuring timely delivery of orders while maintaining exceptional craftsmanship.
Mandatory Requirements

Diploma or Certificate in Fashion Design, Tailoring, Garment Technology, or equivalent experience.
3–5 years of proven experience in tailoring Indian traditional wear and custom designs.
Retail assistant experience preferred.
Strong technical skills in stitching, cutting, and garment construction.
Expertise in traditional Indian fabrics such as Banarasi, Kanchipuram, and Chanderi.
Ability to create custom designs for cultural and festive occasions.
Skilled in operating domestic or industrial sewing machines.
Availability on weekends and during peak festive seasons.
