Job Description
As a Fire Technician, you’ll provide exceptional customer service and workmanship across fire equipment servicing, system testing, and light maintenance tasks.
Your key responsibilities include:
Fire Equipment (FE)
Test, service, survey, and certify portable fire equipment to NZS 4503:2005 and related standards
Prepare defect reports, quotes, and job documentation; ensure work is authorised and completed within pricing guidelines
Liaise with customers to schedule work, minimise site risks, and promote value-added products and services
Fire System Testing & Surveying
Perform regular testing of fire alarms, sprinkler systems, emergency lighting, and fire pumps; carry out fault finding and minor repairs
Complete annual surveys: fire alarms (NZS 4512), emergency lighting (AS/NZS 2293), and passive features per NZ Building Code
Maintain accurate test records and customer reports
Service Remediation
Assist with routine service tasks (minor repairs, device replacements, basic commissioning under guidance)
Care for company tools, test instruments, and vehicles; ensure safe, compliant operation and timely calibration
Customer & Documentation
Respond promptly to customer enquiries and emergency calls; build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Maintain accurate documentation (quotes, defect reports, BWOF evidence) and update timesheets daily
Use company systems and apps as required
What We’re Looking For
NZQA Level 3 Fire Qualification (or ability to enroll and progress; Level 4 preferred)
Strong English reading and writing skills
Experience in the Fire Protection industry (essential)
Excellent customer service and record-keeping skills; computer and mobile app literacy
Full NZ Driver’s License
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in varied environments
Adaptability to changing procedures and technology; willingness to upskill and cross-train
