About us:

The Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service, or the Mason Clinic as it is often known, is the largest Forensic Mental Health and ID Service in New Zealand. We serve all courts in the northern region including five prisons.

The clinical pathways in the ARFPS are formed by the integration of six subservice streams.

Justice and Short Term Care stream (JSTC) comprising an acute and subacute male pathway in Kauri and Totara and a female service of four beds in E Tū Tanekaha. This stream is operationally and functionally linked to the Forensic Prison Team and the Forensic Court Liaison teams. The `Justice arm of the stream focuses on deliverables in prison and courts.
Tari Kaupapa Māori Extended Forensic Care and Rehabilitation (EFCR) stream comprising Te Aka and Tane Whakapiripiri. This stream also hosts Pacifica (but not exclusively).
A mixed gender EFCR stream within E Tū Tanekaha (known as EFCR Stream 1)
A male only EFCR stream comprising Rata and Kahikatea (known as EFCR Stream 2).
A secure inpatient Intellectual Disability service with a community based consult liaison service known as IDOLS (Intellectually Disabled Offenders Liaison Service) providing after-care or parallel community based care.
The Forensic Community Reintegration Service comprising the Rimu open Hostel and the Forensic Community Team. Respite beds for emergency readmission are housed in Totara.
These clinical pathways support recovery, enable tāngata whai i te ora and whānau involvement and are anchored in the recognition of principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (kawanatanga, ritenga, oritenga, and mana Motuhake).

About the role:

In this role, you will provide nursing care of the highest quality in accordance with the Nursing Council of New Zealand scope of practice (Registered Nurse) and the HNZ-Waitematā Professional Development and Recognition Plan level 2, competent Registered Nurse.

Purpose of this role is to meet the diverse needs of forensic service users/ tangata whai I te ora and their families/ whanau, using contemporary professional best practice standards.

This entails the application of comprehensive risk assessments, plans interventions and care delivery that is safe, appropriate and clinically effective. Ensures continuity, is client centered, culturally sensitive and evidence based critical thinking and proactive escalation as needed.

Requirements:

Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand
Hold a current Annual Practicing Certificate
With scope to work in a mental health setting
2+ years of Mental Health Nursing experience
Current PDRP, minimum Level 2 - competent healthcare portfolio
Full NZ drivers licence
A strong commitment to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and ensuring equitable outcomes for all
Ability to be a positive role model to others with a good sense of humour and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
