The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for four Quarantine Station Inspectors to be part of our Biosecurity Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.

The primary purpose of the role is to deliver effective inspection services to ensure that all Plant Material (including fruit & vegetables), Animals, Machinery and Soils meets South Australia’s entry requirements in accordance with Legislation and any non-conformance is reported, and is then either re-directed for inspection, seized for destruction and/or returned to the State of Origin to protect South Australia from pest and/ or diseases.

The role contributes delivering the agency’s priorities including securing production through biosecurity and efficient and sustainable use of resources. The role contributes to working with stakeholders to develop and implement policies, legislation, regulatory framework and undertake surveillance, preparedness and response programs to underpin access to markets and protect the economy, environment, communities and human health.

Special Conditions

Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.
Opportunity up to November 2026
Multiple casual positions, working irregular hours
Requirements

Possession of a current driver’s license and willingness to drive.
Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required.
Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations when applying for a role.
The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.
The Quarantine Station at Ceduna operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week for the entire year.
Must be available to work within rostered hours.
Have, or agree to acquire the Provide First Aid Certificate.
Remuneration
OPS2 - $37.51 min - $40.35 max per hour, plus superannuation
